Peter Oladapo ADEOYE, is a Professor in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ilorin with about 16 years of university teaching, research, and administrative experience. He has a strong track record in academic and professional pursuits. Oladapo holds an MB, BS degree from Ahmadu Bello University and is a Fellow of West African College of Surgeons. He possesses Certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery from Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town. Dr Adeoye is an active member of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), African Association of Thoracic and Cardio-Vascular Surgeons (AATCVS), Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeons of Nigeria (ACTSON), Nigerian Thoracic Society (NTS), and Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS). He has held leadership positions acting as: Assistant Secretary of NMA Kwara State branch, General Secretary and President of ARD-UITH and National 1st Vice President of National ARD, and Chairman MDCAN-UITH. Dr Adeoye has authored more than 70 publications in academic journals, conference proceedings etc. His work has been published in prestigious journals and has been cited by other scholars. Dr Adeoye’s pioneering efforts includes re-establishing routine performance of Orringer’s procedure and ligation of persistent ductus arteriosus, first insertion of percutaneous permanent cardiac pacemaker, first computerized tomography guided percutaneous lung biopsy, first repair of penetrating heart injury, as well as the conduct of the first Open-Heart surgery in UITH. He is currently involved in several research projects, including ‘influence of hypertension on venous haemodynamics’, and ‘evaluation for other significant aetiologic factors in lung cancer’. In recognition for his accomplishments in development of cardiothoracic surgery in Nigeria, he secured scholarship awards by Pan African Congress on Interventional Cardiology (PAFCIC), Amayeza Abantu South Africa, Medtronic Ltd. South Africa, and Texan Medicals Nigeria. Dr Adeoye has made significant contributions to the University of Ilorin and the sister teaching hospital through his service on various committees and administrative boards. He served as Head of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Division since 2011, Acting Head of Surgery Department, Director Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre, currently Director Renewable Energy Centre, and member University Senate since 2020. He has also been actively involved in community service initiatives
