Abdulrasheed, Adegoke NASIR is a professor in the Department of Surgery, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin. With 12years of experience as a teacher, trainer, and administrator. He has a strong track record in academic and professional pursuits. He has served as coordinator of Clinical Skill and Simulation Laboratory, Director, Center for Injury Research and Safety Promotion, Acting Head of Department, and he has served as a member of the University Senate.
Academic Qualifications: Dr Nasir holds a Bachelor Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MB; BS) degree from University of Ilorin and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. He also possesses a Certification in International Interprofessional wound Care Course from University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and Certificate in Leadership and management in health from University of Washington, United State. He had additional fellowship training in Paediatric urology and Minimal access Surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi (2008) and Muljibah Patel Urological Hospital, Nadiad, India (2014). He is a fellow of American College of Surgeons.
Teaching Experience: Dr Nasir has a wealth of experience in teaching, having taught a variety of courses including principle of newborn surgery, hypospadias, posterior urethral valve and surgical jaundice. He is known for employing innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning.
Research Interests/Publications: Dr Nasir is passionate about medical education and outcome research in surgery. His research focus is on paediatric urology. paediatrics surgical oncology, posterior urethral valves, and Wilms tumour. He is currently involved in several research projects, including Global surg studies (Global Surg I, II, III), Global Paediatric Surgery, Paedsurg Africa, GlobalPaedCancer and Tetfund sponsored Injury first responder training. He is the national principal investigator for Multicentre Cohort study on Wilms tumour in Nigeria. He has authored more than 120 publications in academic journals, conference proceedings
Professional Affiliations: Dr Nasir is an active member of many professional Organization including Nigeria Medical Association , Association of Pediatric Surgeons of Nigeria , British Association of Pediatric surgeons, International Society of Paediatric Surgical Oncology, and Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery. He has held several leadership positions including Secretary, Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Deputy Editor in chief, African Journal of Paediatric Surgery and President IMAN Trust Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
Awards and Honors and surgical techniques pioneered: Dr Nasir has been recognized for his accomplishments with Best selective project in International interprofessional Wound care course, Cape Town South Africa and scholar, Bethune 2014 round Table conference Hamilton, Canada, 2014. He was a member of Conjoined Twins Management Team for the 1st successful separation of a set of conjoined twins separated in 2021 at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
Service: Dr Nasir has made significant contributions to the University of Ilorin and the sistr teaching hospital through his/her service on various committees and administrative boards. He has also been actively involved in community service initiatives.
